Travelling to Gornergrat
Since 1898 Switzerland’s first electrically-powered cogwheel train has been bringing passengers up to Gornergrat (3,089m). The trip takes just 33 minutes from the centre of Zermatt. The valley station is only 50m from the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway’s station. The Gornergrat Railway works 365 days a year to let you get the best views of the Matterhorn.
Travelling to Zermatt
Zermatt has no cars – it is traffic free - but easily reached with the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway. Drivers can easily park their cars at the Matterhorn Terminal in Täsch where the shuttle train will take them in 12 minutes to the centre of Zermatt. Passengers arriving in Switzerland by air take a train from the airport station (see SBB rail timetable) and with one change in Visp arrive at the home of the Matterhorn in Zermatt.
