The glittering Igloo Village is located in the ski region between Riffelberg and Gornergrat. It offers a 360-degree view of 29 peaks – including the Matterhorn – towering 4000 metres above you. A piping hot fondue tastes even better against this backdrop − whether you are with your soulmate, family or simply with good friends.
Breathtaking journey with the Gornergrat Railway
The Gornergrat Railway is Switzerland’s number one adventure train in Europe. As the highest open-air cogwheel train in Europe, it scales the imposing mountain landscape of the Gornergrat. It takes you to Rotenboden and the lunch fondue in the Igloo Village daily from January to March.
Fondue in the Igloo Village high above Zermatt
A lunch fondue in the Igloo Village is the ideal excursion destination for nature lovers and culinary connoisseurs. After an impressive ride on the Gornergrat Railway, you will reach the Igloo Village with a 10-minute hike from Rotenboden.
Bask in the sun with a view of the Matterhorn
After the lunch fondue, you can enjoy a view of the Matterhorn from a reclining sunlounger and bask in the sun with a refreshing drink. We also recommend a tour of the Igloo Village, including the Igloo Bar, Igloo Restaurant and Igloo Hotel.
Instead of hiking all the way back up to the Station Rotenboden, you can take the winter hiking trail down to the Station Riffelberg and board the Gornergrat Bahn which brings you right back to Zermatt. Please find the directions here.
More excursion tips in the Igloo Village
If you like the Igloo Village, we have some more excursion tips ready for you: For example, you could spend an Igloo Night high above Zermatt − in a romantic igloo for two or in a comfortable six-person group igloo. And with a glass of sparkling wine in the whirl-pool and a jaw-dropping panorama of the Matterhorn in front of you, things simply couldn’t be better.
