Matterhorn Stories. An exhibition around the greatest “book-mountain”
11. July to 28. October 2018
For one whole summer the Swiss Alpine Museum is showing various books which have a connection to the “mountain of mountains“ in “Shelter“ 30 on Gornergrat.
That the Matterhorn is something special means it has attracted the attention of authors everywhere. Be it for penning a romance, a drama, a tragedy, a novel, a detective story or even a comic or a play, there is literature featuring the Matterhorn from every genre.
Each of the featured books is accompanied by a short, genre-specific quotation in the book’s original language and in English, to whet visitors’ literary appetites and to reveal the strange diversity of the different “Matterhorn Stories”.

Short story competition
There are many good reasons to visit the exhibition: apart from the books themselves and the quotations you get the chance to win a night at the 3100 Kulmhotel Gornergrat for 2 people. To enter, all you need to do is write your own Matterhorn story and hand it in at the exhibition or send it by email to the Swiss Alpine Museum. It doesn’t matter what – a mountain thriller, a love story or a drama on the summit – there are no limitations for your imagination. Good luck!
After “Matterhorn Mania” and “Matterhorn Family”, “Matterhorn Stories” will be the third pop-up exhibition on the Gornergrat arranged by the Swiss Alpine Museum in Bern, in collaboration with the Gornergrat Railway and the Matterhorn Group. The 30 books on display come from the publisher and Swiss mountain expert Daniel Anker’s library. The admission is included in the Gornergrat rail ticket.
